During a big part of my life, I lived and studied in Campo de Ourique. For as long as I can remember, I've been able to observe the rapid evolution and the major real estate investments it has undergone over more than ten years. However, just a few blocks away, we can easily find a totally different reality that is nothing new...
“So close, yet so far” is a photographic exploration that aims to reveal the opposing realities and living conditions of the marginal areas that surround the neighborhood where I grew up. Around Lapa and Prazeres, the main area depicted is Maria Pia, commonly known as a problematic area due to its history of drug trafficking and consumption.
Unlike the "chic neighborhood", Maria Pia remains an ignored and forgotten place, mostly serving as a passage for those intending to reach other destinations.
